3 Tips for Physical Empaths!
There’s a lot of talk about being an empath these days! An empath is someone who feels the energy around them, but there are different types of empaths, and one of them is what I call the “physical empath.”
This is someone who’s physically affected by the energy of people and places.
If you’ve ever walked into a room but immediately wanted to turn around and leave because something just didn’t feel right, you’re probably a physical empath.
Or if you avoid crowded stores because the energy of all those people sends you into overwhelm – Or if you start to feel tired or unwell after being around certain people – you’re definitely a physical empath!
It can be truly challenging to be in the world this way, but your sensitivity can actually be transformed into a beautiful power.
First, there are actually some practical steps you can take to make your experience more manageable and not feel so frequently overwhelmed.
For example, here are 3 tips you can try out right now:
1 – Alone-time!
At the end of the day, most people with this kind of sensitivity just need to be ALONE for a while, to recuperate from the intense energy of the outside world. So when they get home from work, they need to have some private time.
If they’re greeted by someone who immediately wants to talk, or if they’re inundated with family responsibilities the moment they walk in the door, they don’t have that very necessary opportunity to de-stress.
So if you can relate to being a physical empath, arrange to get some alone-time at the end of the day – preferably in a room with 4 walls and a door!
You may only get 20 minutes but even that may prevent you from feeling exhausted the rest of the evening.
Many empaths feel there’s something wrong with them, that they need this precious alone-time, as if they’re some fragile flower, but that’s not true!
They’re actually more open to all the energy around them, and that means their system has more to cope with during the day than anyone else does. So your alone-time will be like vitamins for you.
2 – Space!
Because you’re more affected by other people’s energy, it’s very stressful to have to live or work in close quarters with others. So try to arrange to get as much physical space around you as possible.
For example, that can mean moving your desk at work so it’s not so close to an office-mate’s, or taking breaks and meals in a place where you’re not surrounded by people.
And the trend for open office spaces where there are no walls and everyone works in close proximity can be a nightmare for sensitive people!
If you work in that environment, do whatever you can to get more space between yourself and other people. And if you can have an office all to yourself – fantastic!
At home, having a space you can claim as all yours to retreat to any time you need is the best, but there’s another practical step you can take no matter what your living situation:
Clear away visual clutter!
Physical empaths are far more affected by the clutter they can SEE rather than the stuff hidden away in drawers and closets.
It can make a huge difference in how you feel to just to take clutter off the surfaces in your home – tabletops, countertops, desks, etc.
That alone can make your entire system relax and feel less overwhelm. Try it and see how you feel.
3 – Breathe!
Chinese medicine teaches that physical empaths are the most likely to breathe too shallowly.
This is actually because on an unconscious level, they’re trying to avoid taking in too much energy from the outside world.
The lungs are the only internal organ that’s in direct contact with the external environment – the air from the outside world comes into our lungs. So of course we can understand why empaths do this without even being aware they are.
If you’re a physical empath, try to be more conscious of how well you’re breathing, and remind yourself to take some nice deep breaths whenever you start to feel stressed or overwhelmed.
How to move into your power as an empath!
These are only a few of the tips that can help you more easily thrive as a physical empath.
But in my 30+ years of working with energy, the single most effective way I’ve found to really move into your power as an empath is to learn energy clearing.
When you clear your energy, you release the stress you’ve been carrying, and you also learn how to no longer be an energy sponge!
